Le Tour de Fleece 2009

Here is 8 oz of roving that I bought about a year ago at the Smoky Mountain Spinnery I bought it with the idea to spin some yarn for a shawl, I only had a spindle at the time, now I have a Lendrum wheel . I fell in love with this colorway and I bought it while we were sweaty and recovering from a long hike in the mountains. Here was my inspiration… If you spin check out the blog , ravelry groups and flicker groups. Even if you don’t spin there are some inspiring photos. May you spindles fly as fast as dragonflies Technorati Tags: Tour de fleece 2009 , spinning , fiber , yarn , spindles , smoky mountain spinnery

Spindle physics or did the KnitWitch put a spell on me

And Tour de Fleece update.... I am new to spindles and have been practicing tenaciously, insert giggles here. Coming along fairly well, watch some You Tube videos which helped quite a bit. Then I joined the Tour De Fleece to help motivate me and meet some spinners, spindles, I had met KnitWitch online and lusted after her yarn bowls before I got my spindles. I noticed that she also made spindle bowls , and thought "would that help me much?" OOOO so pretty, so I ended up ordering one, see previous post. Wow, I started really using it today and cannot believe how much it has increased my speed. During my light speed spinning, actually wondering if I would break the sound barrier . It has been many years since my last physics class, so I was wondering as I was spindling along what was going on. Well, knowing the answer to almost every question is on the interest I looked and found Wendy from pointysticks and her spindle physics tutorial . Interesting stuff. Enjoy your sp

Evidently the origins of spinning fiber to make string or yarn are lost in time, traced back as far as the Upper Paleolithic era, which is over 20,000 years ago. How fitting that when spinning, we also get lost in time. I am just learning, slow and clumsy. Yet, while sitting in the living room, as my DH watches TV, reads or draws, I

Spinning, and spinning some more

We have been caught up in lots of yard work. We had our tallest White Pine, which was a 4 split trunk, about 55 ft tall, spilt in a storm. But it didn't fall, simply split and stayed standing. It has been a "edge of the chair" wait for the ground to dry so we could get it cut down. That was today. Hot, humid, lots of lemonade making, and ice and water for the boys. I am really sad to see it go. But all things come to an end. Now our back yard looks bigger and we have some sun in the yard. Of course this involved tearing apart a large raised bed, surrounded by stones, so we could get in to get it. As of now, all of my plants are setting around wilting. I will work on that tomorrow, out of time today. I did find some time to spin. Not much, I am increasing in speed, a little, you can laugh at my results. My first attempts were so heinous I pitched them. This spindle is from Hatchtown Farm , it is a dream to spin with, excellent, and I love it. This is the
