Break Over…

In my hiatus from blogging and knitting I missed the fact that Google Reader has been retired. Yes, I guess I’ve been living under a rock. I’ve had to reset my email passwords etc.. Working on my Citron Shawl , I know! Shawls look a mess when I’m knitting them and then beautiful after blocking! So I’m left trying to figure out how to read my blogs!  I’ve looked into Blog Bridge, and Feedly, what are you using? I’ve bought several knitting magazines, and been trolling Ravelry, looking at patterns and inspiring knitters and their projects. Patterns I’m loving!! Sideways Rib/Cowl Hood from V.Vine ( rav link ) free The Lonely Tree shawl (free pattern A basic super soft merino hat from PurlBee (free pattern) Thanks to all of the great designers!

Golden friends and gifts

I've gotten some wonderful gifts in the mail recently!! Thank you times a thousand!! From my Doppelgänger, Vicki at Dragonfly Soars I received a package full of LOVELY fiber!! I can’t wait to get spinning with these! The braid is BFL from Girlontherocks.com , I love the turquoise (i just painted my living room a lighter shade of this color) and the golden yellow mixed in. The green batt is a super soft batt of blended wool and soy silk from Ogle Design.etsy.com , a perfect spring batt to spin, this green color with a little blue added really puts me in the mood to get out in the garden. From Paula The Quilter , I received five skeins of excellent wool to dye! I’m not sure what colors these want to be yet, but I’m ready to get my pots out! The sun is out today and I haven’t done any Solar dyeing since last fall. Hummmm… I got a huge package of glitz and angelina to add to my spinning from Jane on ravelry!  Thank you Jane!! Great for you to add a lot of sparkle or ju

Winter predictions

I begin to wonder if the number of sweaters I have planned to knit is similar to the length of the hair on a wooly worm. If so, we are in for a severe winter. It all began in the middle of summer, it’s hot, humid and I’m sweating. But for some reason keep begin drawn to bulky yarn, and sweater patters. Now I’m at that point in my life when I can have a full blown hot flash, anytime, anywhere. And I haven’t worn a sweater, unless it was a cardigan that I could whip off in an instant. OK, I need to back up, maybe it actually started last winter. The winter of 09 here was a bad one, we had a huge ice storm and lost power in the house, (and most of the city) for days. Some residents in Kentucky were out for 2 weeks, it was brutal. During that time we stayed in he house and bundled up. Rummaging through the closets and locating that specific item is difficult, especially with nothing but a flashlight. It was then, that the insanity began. I didn’t find what I was looking for,

Donate a Cozie to Sophie

If you haven’t heard about her, Sophie is a great little 4 year old that is inspiring many people to pick up their sticks and string and make a cozie (a cuddle blankie) to donate to her. She is collecting them to give to children at their local hospital. She has a group on Ravelry called Sophie’s Cozies (of course). Sophie knits herself and is adorable. Please go to Ravelry and read her story. I caught wind of her on Plurk, and donated the rest of my baby blankets from my Etsy shop. Woo Hoo….this little girl can inspire. She reminds us of what is important in life, and to take time to do it. She wants to deliver her first batch of cozies in September, so get out your needles and get going. Spot O Tea anyone?

While on Plurk I saw that Yarn Piggy from flyingpigknits   knitted a cute tea pot cosy . The Mistake Rib Teapot cosy by Frankie Brown. It’s a free download and an easy fun knit. Frankie is a great knitting designer and has many free patterns on Ravelry she just requests that you consider giving to Children’s Liver Disease Foundation www.justgiving.com/frankiesknittedstuff . Check her out. I had happened to buy a new teapot one day, while shopping around. A cup of tea is great to accompany your knitting. Here I am working on my grey lace shawl. So I thought, yes my teapot is dying for a cozy. I found some unknown yarn in my stash, a turquoise, (I think it is Manos ?) in a pretty turquoise. I love blue. Yes that looks nice. Quick to start and knit along with a good podcast. At home on my shelf. The pattern allows you to knit the tea cosy up to the lid or just to it. Now I need more tea!!
